As a white Brit, I don't respect this part of black American culture. You've put into words perfectly what I don't like about it.

When I see it in movies or hear it in music, I roll my eyes. I hate anything which is obsessed with status seeking or displaying status symbols to impress others. (Look at my gold chain and my shoes bro! ...Lame and low IQ).

I visited the USA and met some cool black Americans. I had a great chat with one of my Uber drivers in his Tesla in Philly when I was there. He was a linguist and spoke like 5-6 languages. Amazing.

All I would say is that if you're a black American, you don't have to be or do anything the Ghetto culture tries to force on you. You can do or be whoever the hell you want. If you want to learn the violin, educate yourself in literature then effing go and do it.
