Everyone Is Scared Of The Wrong Things
How The News Creates Irrational Fears
What are you scared of? And why?
If you based your fears on statistics, you would be terrified of heart disease, cancer and car accidents. After all, these are the 3 most likely causes of death (In the US).
Statistically, you should be avoiding all potentially cancerous substances (junk food, air pollution etc), keeping your heart as healthy as possible and gripping your steering wheel in fear every time a truck passes you by.
Yet, my guess is you probably feel relatively relaxed while you drive (most of the time).
The very same person replying to a Facebook message while driving without a second thought may be genuinely afraid or concerned about a terrorist attack, a plane crash or a potential paedophile in their child’s school.
The same person who holds intense fears of a pedophile infiltrating their child’s school and grooming them may feel very little fear about taking their child to Mcdonald’s 5 times a week.
People aren’t afraid of what they should be afraid of.
People are more scared of ghosts than they are of the cigarette they’re holding in their hand.
