The system runs so smoothly that people don't even notice that it's being run.
You go to the supermarket, you buy your food and think you're "taking care of yourself" without ever considering who put the food there in the first place.
We actually do still need each other to survive. Without each other, society would collapse and basic needs would be a problem again.
