I don't think it's really a matriarchy. It's plastic surgeons spending millions on advertising their services and convincing women to hand over their money for what they think is increase in their beauty.

Big business has somehow convinced women that these giant lips make them more attractive.

Also, plastic surgery is a slippery slope. Once you find one imperfection, you notice others. And you start chasing perfection.
