I personally believe that a society that was predominantly polygamous would be an unpleasant place to be. With everybody constantly on the dating market, we would all be under more and more pressure to be as attractive as possible to the opposite sex.

Likely, a small segment of men would have harems of women at their side, and a large number of men would be left completely alone; leaving them to fester in anger and resentment until they resort to violence.
