If doctors are fully aware that they have no idea what they’re doing when it comes to depression they shouldn’t pretend that they do. They should simply say: “To be honest, I don’t know how to help you”.

Or.. they should simply educate themselves about depression?

Why do I, a non-medically trained guy, feel I often know more than the doctor about things like mental health and diet? Doctors are often absolutely clueless about these things.

For example, when I was a teenager I was getting spots on my face. The doctor gave me a pill. which did nothing. By coincidence, one week on a school trip, I happened to stop drinking milk and all of my spots disappeared completely. Why on earth didn’t a doctor suggest I try stop drinking milk for a week? They just seem useless on certain things.
