If I Were American, I’d Vote For Donald Trump
And It Has Nothing To Do With The Assassination Attempt
I remember exactly where I was when I heard that Trump had won the 2016 US election.
I was in Sydney, Australia, in the back of a car, driving over the Sydney Harbor Bridge with my manger after having just finished a grueling day of of door to door sales.
The radio was on and we heard the words “Donald Trump will be the next president of America”. My mouth dropped. I felt a deep pang of disappointment and dread. Somehow at that moment, I knew the future was looking dark.
I was 24 years old, and a left-leaning Bernie supporter. Despite not being from the US (I’m a Brit), thanks to the internet I was more invested in American politics than British politics.
But if my 24 year old self could meet my current self, he would be utterly shocked. Because today in 2024, if I was an American, I’d vote for Donald Trump in 2024.
Now I don’t exactly like the guy. He’s a billionaire who can’t sympathise with ordinary people. He’s a narcissist with an inflated ego. He did an absolutely terrible job at dealing with the COVID pandemic. And a large chunk of his “MAGA” supporters are clearly complete morons.
Trust me, I haven’t forgotten any of that.
But as the years have passed, a far stronger, more powerful emotion has formed in my mind:
A deep and seething hatred of the mainstream media.
In 2017, I undertook a new project: MediaVsReality. My goal was simple: to understand the difference between media and reality.
I started by analysing TV adverts and explaining how they convince you to buy products. But as the years passed, I started delving into the news media. And what I discovered just got darker and darker and darker.
That’s the thing about the media. It’s connected to everything.
Among other things, one main core truth that I discovered is that the mainstream media in western countries is the most sophisticated propaganda machine in the world.
