I’m a Brit too and used to have some of the same negative opinions as you, but I’ve visited the US and have since rethought some of them.
The US in many ways really actually was the greatest country in the world. After WW2, anybody who moved to the US could change from nobody to somebody. They had freedom of speech. They were and are still the most powerful country on the planet, especially military wise. I think from 1945-2000 the USA actually was the greatest country in the world.
Americans are not as patriotic as they once were. In fact, many actively hate their own country.
The US is one of the LEAST racist countries in the entire world. They’re less racist than Russia, China, Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Peru and the list goes on. Yes, really. In comparison to most of the world, the US is not racist at all.
We think of Americans as stupid but they have some of the most intelligent people in the world there. Universities like Harvard and Yale are world class and arguably better than Oxford or Cambridge.
