Let’s stop looking at it through the lens of patriarchy and look at it from another angle.
Men are evolved and designed to hunt for food and bring it home to their family and tribe. We are evolved to be running, jumping and throwing spears at animals with our mates, outdoors in the sunshine and rain.
Today, men are sat in an office, or at home, tapping on a keyboard, not moving their bodies, alone. Through our screens are extremely powerful fake versions of the things that men naturally love: Pornography (sex) and video games (hunting with our friends).
Men are supposed to engage in what Ted Kaczynski calls a “power process”, which is essentially battling against the elements to provide for our family and children. This gives men a sense of meaning and purpose.
In modern societies, men have to rely on others. We use technology created by others that we don’t understand. When something goes wrong with the piping in our house, we have to call another man to fix the problem because we don’t understand the complexities of our strange, modern environment.
Forget patriarchy, feminism, toxic masculinity and so on. The core reason that men are unhappy is because we have moved too far away from our natural environment.
