The problem comes when these creatives pursuits are incredibly difficult to monetize. Women often aren't particularly happy with a poor man, who pursues photography all day.

There's also no real guarantee you'll ever climb anywhere significant on the ladder. Lots of passionate photographers out there who are still on the bottom rung of the official "ladder" that women see.
