These Are Not Healthy!

Stop Getting Fooled By Food Packaging

Whenever I hit the supermarket, I see an entire section filled with granola bars and cereal bars like this. Do you?

That means people are buying them. And I assume most of these people are buying them under the impression that they’re healthy.

Newsflash: They’re not!

Are you giving these to your kids, mums?

You’ve been hoodwinked and hypnotised by food packaging into believing you’re buying a healthy snack, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

Yes, I bought my own box for the sole purpose of writing this article.

Let’s analyse the front of the box. The brand name itself “Nature Valley” has led you to assume that these bars must be “natural” in some way, and must contain natural ingredients. You probably never realised you had made that assumption, but you did — in your subconscious mind.

My guess is you just wacked the box into your shopping cart without a second thought.

Did they choose the two women on the back of this box at random? Hell no.

These two women are both attractive in a “cute” kind of way. In fact, they were both hired from a model agency for that exact reason. They both look youthful and healthy, leading you to associate these granola bars with these two qualities.

You will also make an unconscious assumption that the bars inside the box had a part to play in keeping them youthful and healthy. Do these two models on the back of the box, in reality, actually eat these granola bars? Probably not. But that probably never crossed your mind.

The two women both seem to be in their early 30’s. This age group was chosen by the marketing team after studying their target demographic for the product. Not too young as to make older customers feel as though the product isn’t for them, but still young enough to be desirable.
