This is actually a really interesting question. And great job on actually doing the boring work of counting up the data.

It certainly feels like there is a certain ideological slant to the front page of Medium. I don’t believe there is a gender bias (The numbers speak for themselves). But there could very well be a political bias.

I can’t ever remember seeing anything remotely right-wing on the front page. I’ve never seen any critiques of feminism on the front page. You would never see an anti-abortion article on the front page. And you would never see a pro-Trump article on the front page.

No platform is neutral. Especially one where individual curators actually choose which stories are featured. I’d say that Medium is fundamentally a left-wing platform. Which means that all of us are inside a left-wing filter bubble while we use this site.

(I’m left-wing myself. So I don’t mind. And it definitely makes the platform a much calmer place)
