Several years ago, a group of scientists discovered that male barn swallows who had a darker shade of brown on their chest were highly attractive to female barn swallows.
The darker the chest of the male bird, the more females would line up to mate with him.
To female barn swallows, a dark chest on a male is a sign of health and strength, meaning the male was likely to help her produce strong and healthy offspring.
One day, a group of scientists took a $5.99 marker pen and coloured the chest of a male barn swallow in a shade of brown darker than is naturally found in these birds.
So what happened? This lucky fella became the hottest chap in town. The female barn swallows found his dark brown chest to be irresistibly sexy and he was overwhelmed with mating opportunities.
