What happens when deepfake technology and synthetic media mean all video footage is suspect? What does that mean for police body cam footage or cctv footage? Anybody caught on camera committing a crime will be able to claim “deepfake”, and we will have no way of knowing if the footage is real or not.

When nobody can be sure of reality is or isn’t, reality will be decided for us by the most powerful people in the world. A world of post-truth is the perfect environment for dictators to take power.

Imagine what Stalin would do with deepfake technology.

From my point of view, this is THE biggest problem we face.
