Your mistake is thinking that men “calling out their friends for inappropriate jokes” is going to make any significant difference.

Doing this would make almost no difference to the number of rapes.

If you want to reduce incidents of rape, then increase the police budget. More money spent on policing would actually decrease rape. But nobody wants to talk about realistic solutions like this.

Even if all the “normal men” were to spend every weekend protesting on the streets about rape. Even if we all held weekly work meetings talking about rape. Even if we had an entire school curriculum dedicated to educating young people about rape. There would still be rape. Because criminals, murderers and rapists will always exist.

As a man, you can call out inappropriate behaviour, you can avoid victim blaming and you can educate yourself about rape. And that’s it. That’s the limit to what you can do to affect the issue of rape. Most men aren’t in a position of power to take any significant action to reduce the number of rapes.
